BhimTekdi - A Beautifuk Scenic place in Vindhyas, India
Related to country: India

Bhimtekdi is a Hillock near Bhopal, Capital of Madhya Pradesh. Its around 80 Kms from Bhopal, nearl5 5 KMs off the National Highway.

Bhopal is situated on the Vindhya Mountains and this place is again a hillock on that. The location is surronded by Farms. We visited this place in 2001, as a part of our annual family trips.

We went to Bhopal and from there, we hired a taxi to reach this palce. One can visit the place and return in half a day. Though the palce can be reached by Vehicle, nothing is available there, neither food nor drinks.

We visited the place in the evening, after Visiting Bhjpur, again a place near by. I would write about Bhojpur later. The Hill is a big one, with dense frest and Wild animals. Hence, people are not allowed to go after 5:00 in the evening.

There is a story attached to this place. In Mahabharata, Bhimasena, second of the Five Pandavas, married Hidimbi, a demon, after killing her Brother Hidimbasura in a ferocious duel. Those days, demons used to ahve the power of changing their appearance itsims, and this lady stays as a beautiful lady when she is with Bhimasena. They say that it is at this palce that Bhimasena married Hidimbi and later resorted to serious penace.

The story is indeed intresting. But, the more intresting thing is that, once can see the sculputres that are formed out of erosion with sea water. (I am not aware of the scientific name). Up there in the Mountains, sculptures formed out of erosion, thats really an amazing thing. The guide there said that Indian Ocean used to be at that level once upon a time. and these are more than 7,000 years old.

Fossils of Dinosaur and some other creatures were also discovered there. Paintings of the Historic Man can also be seen there, in the caves. We didnt have much time to wander about, as all these are scaterrred and the guide was worrying about the Tiger which is said to have killed some one a few days back. Casue of moving in its fortress after the allowed time.

There is also a small temple there, attended by two priest who stay there all the time. They too confirmed the news of the tiger. Well, the temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is a very small cave, where Shiva is said to ahve given hi darshan or appeared to Bhimasena, who did his penance there itsims for the grace of Lord Shiva. There is a well near the temple and it is the only source of water there. This temple is again surrounded by Forest.

There is no power supply for the place and the temple too closes its doors after 5:00

Apart from the findigs there, the thing I liked most there was the calmness. Its so calm that you can hear a whisper. And being admist nature, that is still untouched by Man, thats really a great feeling.

I enjoyed every moment of there and the memory is still fresh in my mind. and I recommend the place for everyone as a msut visit....

We took some snaps there, but unfortunately, the whole film was a prey for insects. Thats again another story.... I will tell it later
